Residency Verification

Residency Verification is now available online.

Verification that each student resides within our school district boundaries must be done annually. We also require contact information on parents/guardians and emergency contacts be updated annually.

If parents/guardians prefer to prove residency in person or to have us help with the online process for verifying emergency contact information, representatives from all schools will be on hand in the gymnasium at 
Grain Valley South Middle School on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 from 11:00 am-7:00 pm, to help and to accept proof of residency documents. We will have several computers available for parent/guardian use to update the emergency contact information for their child.

Students become eligible to receive a class placement and/or a class schedule only after proof of residency is provided and emergency contact information is updated.

Our residency verification event on July 24 is also our new student enrollment day.

Everything parents and guardians need to know to prove residency, verify emergency contact information, and to submit online payment for middle school and high school back-to-school fees is right here!

With these steps completed on each child ahead of time, parents/guardians DO NOT need to attend our Residency Event on July 24.

1. Verify emergency contact information using the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
  • Returning PowerSchool Parent Portal account users may follow the instructions below, labeled “Instructions for Parents/Guardians who HAVE set up their PowerSchool Parent Portal Account.” Click “Forgot Username or Password?” to reset password. More suggestions are included below.

  • New PowerSchool Parent Portal account users are encouraged to attend our Residency Event sometime between 11:00 am and 7:00 pm at South Middle School on July 24. 

 

2. Email a scanned copy or photo of a June or July 2018 utility bill to each school residency address below where you have a child attending in the fall. Include your child(ren)’s name(s) in the subject line of each email. You may need to copy the school's email address and paste it into your email. The name of the parent/guardian, address, and date must be clearly visible on the bill statement.

Residency can be verified with one of the following utility bills if in the name of the parent/guardian:

Spire natural gas bill, KCP&L electric bill, or water bill are accepted. The utility bill must include the residence address and the name of the parent/guardian. June or July bill statements only and no final or disconnect notices will be accepted. Contact your child's school or our district office at (816) 847-5006 x1 with any questions.

 

A Rental Lease Agreement can be used to verify residency, however it must be shown in person and is not accepted online or through email.  The Rental Lease Agreement must include names of occupants, date of agreement, landlord’s name, address, phone number, and signatures. The parent/guardian's name must be included in the lease agreement.

 

3. Submit ONLINE PAYMENTS for any middle school or high school back-to-school fees through Eleyo.

Middle School and High School students will need to pay:

  • Chromebook Insurance Fee - On the Eleyo website, click on the "Chromebook Insurance Fee Grade 6-12" icon to pay the Chromebook insurance fee for each student in grades 6 though 12.
  • School Fees - On the Eleyo website, click on the school (High School, North Middle School and/or South Middle School) icon to pay student school fees.

 

*Elementary and early childhood students do not have fees associated with the back-to-school process.


 

Instructions for Parents/Guardians who HAVE set up their PowerSchool Parent Portal Account (any returning student).

This is the same process used last summer. This must be completed by the Parent/Guardian. Student PowerSchool usernames will not work for this annual verification:

  1. Click here for the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
  2. Enter your username and password and click Sign In. If you have trouble remembering your username or password, you may click “Forgot Username or Password?,” email us at portal@gvr5.net, or attend our residency event on July 25.
  3. In the left navigation bar in PowerSchool, click on PowerSchool Registration.
  4. In the new tab that opens, click Start Form beneath the student’s name.
  5. View, enter, or update your student’s information making sure that all fields marked with a red “required” are filled out.
  6. When all information is entered and/or updated, check the box for the Electronic Signature and click Submit.
  7. If you have additional students in the district, repeat steps 4-6 for each child.


Enrollment for new students

Any family with a child to enroll in our schools for the first time this fall should attend our residency event on July 24 from 11:00 am – 7:00 pm in the gymnasium at South Middle School on Ryan Road. Families enrolling new students should bring the items listed below.

Families who have previously enrolled a child to begin Kindergarten for this fall do not need to do anything else unless personally requested by the child’s school to provide missing information.

School Lunch Deposits
If you would like to make a School Lunch Deposit you can do so by visiting the My School Bucks website.


Free and Reduced Price Meals are available to families who qualify. To apply for Free and Reduced Price Meals please CLICK HERE. A paper application, may be obtained from the office at any one of our school buildings, or at the Residency Verification event on July 24 at South Middle School.

Valley Kids Before and After School Program
Online registration for the Valley Kids Before and After School program for the 2018-2019 school year is now available. Please visit the Eleyo website to register your child.
