It is time, once again, to enroll your student for our SOAR Summer Program! This year, we have a wide variety of class offerings. These enrichment opportunities are offered by some of the best teachers in our district, and are designed to maximize student engagement, creativity, and collaboration. There are also two classes, Reading Explorations and Math Investigations, designed to increase levels of student achievement in those subject areas.

COVID-19 Protocols
The Grain Valley School District will continue to make COVID-19 testing available for students exhibiting one or more symptoms of the virus. This testing is conducted by the Grain Valley Health Services staff and is minimally invasive. Currently, testing is not available for asymptomatic cases.

Contact tracing and quarantine procedures for COVID-19 will be in effect for SOAR just like during the regular school year, but subject to change based on any new guidance from the Jackson County Health Department. If your child is sick or showing symptoms of COVID-19, please plan to keep them home from SOAR. If it is determined that your child was a close contact (exposure) to a positive case, school officials will notify you as soon as possible with instructions for quarantine and return to school protocols.

Because SOAR is a unique curriculum and varies by grade and class, students in quarantine will not have access to virtual learning (virtual instruction during quarantine will not be provided).

If you plan on enrolling, please submit the Google form by Friday, April 16. After April 16, students who enroll may be placed on a wait list based on student response and building capacity.

Transportation to and from Summer SOAR is the responsibility of the parent. District transportation services are not available. Parent Drop-off/pick-up will be at the main entrance.
*We will offer transportation to and from the High School for those taking part in Summer Weights and Sports Camps.

School lunch
All school meals will remain free for all families during Summer SOAR 2021. Please be aware that extra items such as drinks, snacks and extra entries will be available for purchase. Students also have the option of bringing their own lunch.  Leaving school for lunch or ordering for delivery are strictly prohibited.

All school and district policies from the regular school year apply to Summer SOAR.

Please read the guidelines for Summer SOAR so that you are familiar with them. Students are expected to follow the guidelines for Summer Enrichment as well as those in the student handbook.

We are excited about this additional opportunity to educate your student and look forward to beginning Summer SOAR on June 7. Questions about summer school should be directed to Chad Lograsso, at clograsso@gvr5.net.
