Strategic Plan (CSIP 2021)
Accomplished!

Personalized Learning - We will prepare each student for their future through competency-based learning, a flexible learning environment, and student-centered learning.

1. Trained all middle school teachers and a high school cohort of 35 teachers in blended learning 1:1.
2. Implemented Tier 2 of Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) for K-5 reading and is nearing full implementation in grades 6-8 reading.
3. Implemented a district reading success plan that specifically addresses Dyslexia.
4. Trained an additional 35 teachers in Project-Based Learning.
5. Clarified and promoted “personalized learning” through internal and external communication.

Team Member Goal - We will develop the skills of our team members to improve student success.
6. Provided ongoing training to teachers in various aspects of personalized learning and school and student safety.
7. Provided specialized training as needed to non-certified staff in front line de-escalation, bus intruders, illegal substances, bullying, ALICE active shooter, 1st aid, seizures, asthma, epipen administration, diabetes, and behavior intervention.

Financial Management Goal - We will manage growth, finances, and support services proactively and responsibly.
8. Adjusted elementary school boundaries to address near-capacity enrollment at Matthews Elementary and Prairie Branch Elementary.
9. Increased student participation in school-provided healthy meal options through a social media campaign WHAT’S FOR LUNCH, resulting in 119 more students in the lunch program and 91 more students in the breakfast program compared to the previous year. Participation reached its highest level in at least five years.
10. Implemented new financial and human resources management software, with the final components due to be rolled out in the next few months.

Climate Goal - We will provide a learning environment that is safe, positive, respectful, and welcoming.
11. Implemented a new drug and alcohol awareness program for 7th grade students.
12. Increased membership to the taskforce studying trauma-sensitive schools and delivered an initial training for all teachers in February.
13. Trained all staff on ALICE active shooter and intruder response and all staff will participate in ALICE scenario training in August.

Community Relations Goal - We will increase family and community involvement in our schools and district, and will effectively communicate internally and externally.
14. Secured a provider of behavioral health assessment and treatment to provide ongoing therapy to students in their school during the school day beginning in August.
15. Promoted the Grain Valley Schools App, leading to an average of 100 new downloads per month.

Accomplished!

Personalized Learning - We will prepare each student for their future through competency-based learning, a flexible learning environment, and student-centered learning.
1. Developed a vision for K-8th grade technology integration. We will issue Chromebooks to all middle school students, and devote an additional 500 devices for elementary students, in the fall.
2. Implemented a modified grade card for all K-5th grade students.
3. Integrated competency-based and student-centered learning into curriculum development processes.
4. Initiated project-based learning team in grades 6-12.
5. Utilized a consultant to initiate Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) processes and to guide student data analysis and Tier 2 interventions.

Team Member Goal - We will develop the skills of our team members to improve student success.
6. Provided regular teacher observations and personalized feedback.

Financial Management Goal - We will manage growth, finances, and support services proactively and responsibly.
7. Conducted a professional demography study to inform decisions around near-capacity enrollment at Matthews Elementary and Prairie Branch Elementary.
8. Passed a bond issue with 76.69% “Yes” vote for the next phase of high school addition and renovation.

9. Purchased a camera monitoring system for all school buses for 2018-2019.
10. Implemented new anti-bullying training for students and team members.
11. Implemented a revised Trauma Response Plan that integrates the previous Grief Plan and Counseling Plan.
12. Implemented training and practice with new back-up classroom door security devices.

Community Relations Goal - We will increase family and community involvement in our schools and district, and will effectively communicate internally and externally.

13. Eleyo implemented for online student fee payment.
14. Established student input panels for grades 9-12.
15. Updated district and school webpages with families in mind and rolled out a new district app.

Accomplished!

Personalized Learning - We will prepare each student for their future through competency-based learning, a flexible learning environment, and student-centered and student-directed learning.
1. Successful pilot of a modified grade card for grades K-5, including specific academic and non-academic standards.
2. Successful small-scale pilot of a gradebook program for grades 6-12.
3. Selected a universal screener program to track student performance for intervention, with a plan for implementation for the 2017-2018 school year.
4. Issued a Chromebook device to each high school student.

Team Member Goal - We will develop the skills of our team members to improve student success.
5. Identified specific non-certified roles who may feel inadequately prepared for their roles and provided the necessary training to address deficiencies.
6. Implemented processes for the evaluation of all professional learning experiences in certified staff.
7. Implement processes for the evaluation of all professional learning experiences in non-certified staff.
8. Identified non-certified roles in need of feedback processes/evaluations that need to be more job-specific. Changes made to the evaluation processes for non-certified personnel.
9. Student survey data integrated into the certified educator evaluation process for grades 3-12.

Climate Goal - We will provide a learning environment that is safe, positive, respectful, and welcoming.
10. Conducted quarterly District Safety Committee meetings to review and revise the District Safety Plan.
11. Evaluated the need for revision of our Grief Plan and Counseling Crisis Plan, as well as the alignment of these with any revisions to the Safety Plan.
12. Researched the implications for “trauma-Informed” schools.

Financial Management Goal - We will manage growth, finances, and support services proactively and responsibly.
13. Identified essential operational processes needing clarification for increased efficiency and/or effectiveness. Protocols clarified.
14. Reviewed the process for the annual review of the competitiveness of pay and benefits.

Community Relations Goal - We will increase family and community involvement in our schools and district, and will effectively communicate internally and externally.
15. Created a “dashboard” to make district performance data and CSIP 2021 progress more easily accessible and understandable for stakeholders.
16. Established a Communications Advisory Board with representatives of key stakeholder groups to advise the internal and external communications of the District.
17. Developed a district comprehensive communications plan.
18. Doubled the number of Bright Futures partnerships with business and faith-based groups, and the impact of these partnerships on our students and schools.
