Elementary and Middle School Start Times Adjusted

Elementary and Middle School Start Times Adjusted
Posted on 06/29/2021
The start and end times for elementary schools will change to 8:45-3:45 starting this fall (previously 8:40-3:40) and our middle schools will be 7:55-2:55 (previously 7:45-2:50). The high school start and end times will remain unchanged. School start and end times are changing by a few minutes each at our elementary and middle schools to improve the flow of school bus transportation and reduce chronic wait times some schools have experienced, particularly at North Middle School. Most of our school buses run two routes each morning, first for students in grades 6-12 to both the high school and one middle school, followed by a route for elementary students. In the afternoon, these buses pick up from the high school and one middle school and deliver these students home, before picking up from one elementary school and delivering those students home. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Nick Gooch is confident these changes will lead to smoother school bus transitions at our schools, "We may not be able to control for all traffic variables throughout our district, but these adjustments are expected to help improve the overall flow of our buses from school to school." The overall length of the middle school day is also being shortened by five minutes, undoing a previous change made to address a similar concern. Some have asked if running separate routes for middle school and high school students would solve this, but doing so is determined to be cost-prohibitive due to the expense of additional buses and drivers.
