Application Instructions

Substitute teachers must be at least 21 years old, hold a high school diploma, successfully complete a 20-hour online substitute training course, and pass a background check. Approved training is available here:

Frontline Education

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requires all substitutes to apply for their own substitute certificates through the the department's website:

Once you have completed your application through DESE's website, please complete the Grain Valley School District Substitute Application located on this website.

If you are selected to be added to our substitute pool, you will be required to attend an orientation program. Please note: You must have a valid substitute certificate (obtained by applying through the DESE website) prior to attending the orientation.

The next scheduled substitute orientations will be held:

*Please note - To attend an upcoming orientation, you must have a valid Missouri substitute certificate (or teaching certificate) and an updated background clearance through DESE as well as completed the application process through the Grain Valley Schools web site.

All orientations will begin at 10:00 am at the Grain Valley Schools district administrative office located at 31606 E Pink Hill Road.
