September is Attendance Awareness Month. At Grain Valley Schools, we believe that daily school attendance opens opportunities for students to explore far beyond the classroom.
When students are at school, they are able to discover their interests, find their fit, and challenge themselves daily. Through a comprehensive curriculum that is designed to prepare students for post-secondary success, career exploration that allows students to imagine, plan, and ask questions about their future, and extracurricular offerings that support their social and emotional well-being, being present in school matters.
The Full Picture is a district attendance awareness initiative that highlights the opportunities that are available to our students when they are present at school.
Did You Know?
- Career exploration begins for students as early as Elementary School, with an integrated curriculum all year through Agilities. In March, the school counselor teaches a unit on careers, where students explore interests and match their interests to careers. During this unit, elementary schools host a career fair. Here, students take turns hearing from individuals in different career paths, including dentists, zoologists, first responders, bakers, skilled trades, and more.
- Last year in middle school, participation hit an all-time record high with over 500 students getting involved—the most in history! This was accomplished with the support of expanding opportunities across the board, launching our brand-new Esports and Swim and Dive programs, and opening up Scholar Bowl and Speech & Debate to 6th graders for the very first time.
Stay tuned throughout September for a deep dive into the opportunity available for students in Grain Valley Schools.
