Board of Education October Recognition

Congratulations to Corbin Clark, who was recognized during the October Board of Education meeting for being selected as a Commended Student from the National Merit Scholarship.

About 34,000 students nationwide earn commended status each year. These students score roughly in the top 2-4% of all test takers.

Two images: one is of a school bus driver sitting in the driver's seat. The other is the side of a school bus. The bus says: Grain Valley R-5 School District.

School Bus Safety Week

Did you know that taking the school bus is the safest way for students to travel to and from school? October 19–23 marks School Bus Safety Week! As the first friendly face students see every morning, a bus driver sets the standard for a great day at school.

Here is a look at school transportation in Grain Valley Schools:
  • Nearly 71% of students ride a district bus, whether daily or occasionally.
  • Our district currently operates and maintains 52 buses.
  • Throughout the 2025–2026 school year, our fleet logged 602,000 miles.
We all play a part in keeping transportation safe for our students and the roads safe for our community.
  • Stop - When the red lights are flashing and/or the school bus arm is out, both sides of the street must stop for the school bus.
  • Be Alert - Watch for children when the bus is loading or unloading.
  • Be Patient - Slow down and be patient in school zones around school buses.

Thank you to our transportation team for their dedication to getting our students to and from school safely each day!

Three photos from different schools. The first image is a group of students sitting on the carpet in the classroom, working on writing the letter "a" in sand. The second image is of a teacher supporting a student who is sitting at a desk and working on their worksheet. The third image is a student sitting at a desk writing on a piece of paper.
